Steampunk Nightmare Moon Cosplay Tutorial: Coat

So my favorite My Little Pony character is Nightmare Moon. She is an amazing villain but I only wish we had seen more of her!

A while back I decided to make a MLP cosplay. I debated which character to play for a while (my choices had been Rainbow Dash, Princess Luna, Doctor Whooves, and Derpy. I might play Derpy at some point, but in this style instead because I really love it-

But anyway, those were my choices)
Then it hit me that I wanted to do a villain (because I really love the baddies – they are just too fun not to love). I loved them all and it was hard to choose but I eventually decided on Nightmare Moon: The first villain. (Maybe I’ll do ’em all and make a small series, who knows?).
But instead of doing the traditional Nightmare Moon, I wanted to put a spin on it. Steampunk more specifically.
I decided to start with the coat. My dad has these old black, long raincoats. I nabbed one from him because I knew it’s be the perfect coat once it was finished. So here’s where I tell you how you can make your own.

1. Get some of this Webbing paint by Krylon in silver. This was on sale in the craft section at my Walmart, I got three cans but only used two. You’ll want to get 3 depending on how much coverage you want, the size of your coat, and because it’s always nice to have extra in case something goes wrong. This stuff dries really fast – not even 5 minutes. But leave the coat out overnight so the paint can cure.

2. Get your coat and hang it on a hanger, then hang it somewhere you’re ok with getting a bit of paint on (I.e a fence post or the edge of the fence), you’ll want to do this outside seeing as this paint can have some strong fumes. Also my coat had a matte finish which really made it look Steampunk – so you might want to make sure yours has a similar finish if that’s the look you’re going for.

3. Begin painting, I painted in streaks and ribbons. You can’t mess up with this paint – it’s just about impossible.

4. When you’re finished painting you can put a seal on it I you like, but this paint doesn’t really chip and the finish it’s got is pretty perfect so I didn’t use a seal on mine.

I’ve never done this so it might not work – but then again it might. Paint a black coat silver (all over, but it doesn’t need to be a thick coat), then take some sandpaper/sand block/nail file and start sanding away at the paint. This’ll make the paint start to wear away and make it look distressed. This can be time consuming but it can be a more custom look. I think you’ll also definitely want to put a seal on this – the paint will definitely fleck from the sanding. And remember to let the paint fully dry before sanding (otherwise you’ll just have a mess).

That’s all for this post, if you have any questions, suggestions, ideas, or suggestions, please leave them in the comments sections and we’ll get back to you!

Guardians of the Galaxy Cosplay Plans

Ok, so I saw te new marvel movie Guardians if the Galaxy this past Saturday and it was EPIC.
Thus I must make some cosplays!
I will begin with Groot (he has no props and I think with some creativity this costume can easily be made within a week I think)

After Groot, I’ll do Rocket. The details on his suit will take some time (especially seeing as my sewing skills aren’t that advanced) and his gun will take some thinking (if you have any ideas or suggestions, please leave them in the comments! I would be extremely grateful!). And I think I’m gonna do some extreme makeup to get the raccoon look.

And then there’s Pete. He has 4 props (2 guns, a mask, and the rockets on his boots) and his jacket is leather and has a little more detail to it than a normal leather jacket.

League of Legends Cosplay Inspiration Pictures (Diana and Katarina)

Ok, so I definitely want to do a LoL Cosplay (too cool to pass on). I love Diana’s Classic skin

But Kat is also a favorite (I can play a good game as bot Kat)

The problem is – that’s a little more midriff than I wanna show. So instead I was thinking of Kat’s other skin which would be High Command Kat

Which is cooler in my opinion. Plus I’m liking the belted peepholes on the sides.

Post question: which LoL character would you cosplay?
Bonus question (in case you don’t play LoL or want some extra brownie points) how would you begin building a High Command Kat or Classic Diana cosplay?
